Once Upon A Time...

Grampa's Catfish House originally opened for business in June 1970 at 1218 Mission Rd., North Little Rock.  A small out-of-the-way restaurant that was nessled quietly away in the back roads of North Little Rock.  It's out-of-the-way location made going to Grampa's to eat a special treat.

Grampa's original menu consisted of catfish steaks and fried chicken that were served all-u-can-eat directly to your table.  The original building was a small retaurant that sat a whoppin' 30 people.  While folks waited for seats, Grampa decided to give the folks roasted peanuts to eat.  The folks loved the peanuts so much that the floor would be covered with peanut shells, thus came the tradition of throwing the peanut hulls on the floor at Grampa's (damned insurance company made us quit that this year.).

Traditions are part of the Grampa's experience.  Not just the restaurant and the peanut hulls, but hats as well.  Our good friend, Dave is from Wisconsin and his dad would visit us when he came down each year.  Well, one year he brought us a baseball cap for his business "Thomson's Meats".  As things would go, Grampa's got busy.  As Dave's dad left, he wanted to know what to do with the ball cap.  Dave grabbed up a staple gun and tacked the cap to wall, and thus began another tradition.  At the Mission Rd. building we have displayed over 2000 baseball caps, and we've got another 200 or so at Shadow Oaks.

As our family grew so did the business in 2004, we opened Grampa's Southern Catfish House over in Little Rock on Stagecoach Road.  We didn't know how many Little Rock Folks ate with us until we opened up over there.

This year, changing population demographics and a 36 yr. old building made it necessary for Grampa's to move from Mission Road.  We hated to move but it was time for a change.  That's why we relocated to Shadow Oaks where we have a much larger facility that seats over 270 guests with another 200 seats available in our private dining areas.
